Write the first reviewThe Tetenal Colortec color film processing kits (C-41 and E-6) were very popular kits that allowed analog photographers to easily develop their color films at home at an affordable price. With the bankruptcy of Tetenal in 2023, these kits also disappeared from the market. Meanwhile, there are already some worthy alternatives on the market such as the Monopart C-41 Kit from Bellini which is faster and easier to use. For the real Colortec enthusiasts, however, there is good news because the German company Adox is now putting these kits back on the market under its own brand name and under the C-Tec product series.
The Adox C-Tec C-41 Rapid Color Film Processing Kit is identical to Tetenal's Colortec C-41 developing kit and offers a shortened development process consisting of three baths, the color developer, combined bleach-fix ( blix) and stabilizer. The color developer comes in three components that must be mixed before use.
The C-Tec C-41 development process can be used at three temperatures: 30 °C, 38 °C and 45 °C. The process at 38 °C is the standard process and is only recommended if you are using a tool that provides constancy rotation of the tank such as Vintage Visual's AGO Film Processor or a color processor from Jobo. The process at 30 °C is mainly suitable for home development in a standard development tank with inversion. It is important to agitate continuously, possibly using the agitation rod that came with your (Paterson) development tank. Before starting the process, it is important that your developing tank is also preheated by filling the tank (with film) with water at 30 °C for about 5 minutes and then pouring it out. All baths should also be kept constantly at 30 °C. For this you can use, for example, the TCS-1000 from CineStill. The process at 45 °C is a lot shorter but is a “one-shot” process, the chemistry cannot be reused after that. If films are pushed to higher speeds, development can only be done at 38 °C and each step must be extended by 30 seconds.
Development at temperatures lower than 30 °C is possible by extending the times respectively. However, due to varying results we do not recommend this.
With this kit you obtain 1 liter of working solution good for developing 12 to 16, 35mm or 120 films. To get the most out of the kit, it is important to develop your films shortly after each other as possible. The stock solution can be divided into several parts. Always store all solutions (stock solution and working solution) in airtight, full bottles and use an anti-oxidizing spray if necessary. Prepared color developer has a shelf life of about 6 weeks. Blix and stabilizer have a shelf life of about 24 weeks.
