The Pentax 17, developed as part of the Pentax Film Camera Project, is a unique and brand new analog 35mm film camera. It features a half-frame format, capturing two 17mm x 24mm pictures within a single 35mm-format frame (36mm x 24mm). Additionally, it employs a horizontal film advance mechanism. When positioned normally, it captures vertical-format pictures similar to those taken by smartphones commonly used today. It comes with a built-in flash and is compatible with every 35mm film, black-and-white or color.

Let's explore its most important features features:

Half-Frame Format: the Pentax 17 captures two 17mm x 24mm pictures within a single 35mm-format frame (36mm x 24mm). This format allows for creative compositions and efficient use of film. Thus, on a roll of film of 36 exposures, you take twice as many pictures or 72 pictures.

Classic Design: the camera's body has a timeless design reminiscent of traditional film cameras. The top and bottom covers are made of lightweight magnesium alloy, ensuring both durability and rigidity.

Manual Operation: the Pentax 17 features manual film winding, similar to classic Pentax SLR film cameras. Users can enjoy the tactile experience of winding the film after each shot, accompanied by a satisfying wind-up sound. The easy-loading system minimizes film-loading errors, especially for beginners.

Fixed-Focal Lens: equipped with a newly developed 25mm f/3.5 fixed-focal lens (equivalent to a 37mm lens in the 35mm format), the Pentax 17 combines time-proven optics with modern HD coating. This coating enhances clarity and sharpness in half-frame pictures.

Zone-Focus System: the camera's zone-focus system offers six focus zones, each indicated by marks on the focusing ring. Users can easily select the appropriate zone for their subject distance. The Macro focus zone allows close-up photography from approximately 25 centimeters away.

Bright Optical Viewfinder: the Albada-type optical viewfinder provides real-time confirmation of the subject image. Additionally, a close-up visual field compensation frame assists in composing close-up shots. Zone marks are visible directly through the viewfinder.

Overall, the Pentax 17 combines nostalgia with modern features, making it an excellent choice for film enthusiasts and creative photographers.
