Write the first reviewThe Bellini FX6a Monobath for black and white film is based on Crawley's (BJP) original FX 6-A monobath formula, invented in 1964. The concept of the monobath is simple, film developing and fixing is done with only one bath which simplifies the development process of black and white film. Despite the fact that monobaths in contrast to classic processes with a separate film developer and fixer (D-76/ID-11, HC-110, X-TOL,...), offer slightly less sharp negatives, monobaths are gaining popularity again. Mainly beginning analog photographers and experienced analog photographers who find process speed important prefer a monobath to the classic separate components.
At 24 °C, almost every (cubic grain) black and white film develops completely within 3 minutes and is fully fixed between 4 and 7 minutes. As a rule of thumb, you can therefore assume that a black and white film is usually fully developed and fixed after 8 minutes with this FX6a monobad. T-Grain films like Kodak T-Max, Ilford Delta and Bergger Pancro need to be processed for twice as long (+- 16 minutes) as these films fix slowly in monobath solutions like this (due to the lower level of thiosulfate). It is important to agitate continuously for the first 30 seconds and then for 10 seconds after each elapsed half minute. If your film negative shows a milky white color after the process it means that the film was not fixed enough. Don't worry, put the film back in the concentrate and agitate continuously to continue the fixation process. Low nominal speed films fix faster than high nominal speed films such as ISO 400.
Given that it is an alkali solution, the rinsing time after developing is limited and is no more than 5 minutes.
The Bellini FX6a Monobad has a shelf life of approximately 6 months after opening the bottle and when the concentrate is stored in a full bottle. The Monobad should not be diluted and is reusable. To compensate for the reduced effect over time, each processing time should be extended by 15 seconds. The total capacity of 1 liter of FX6a is 16-20 35mm films or 8-10 120 roll films.
