XT-3 is Adox's long-awaited ascorbic acid-based film developer that can be a worthy alternative to Kodak XTOL and Fomadon Excel. Adox XT-3 delivers black and white negatives with high sharpness, very fine grain and makes the optimal use of the nominal film speed of virtually any black-and-white film.
The two-part film developer comes in powder form and contains no harmful substances such as hydroquinone and boric acid. Adox's proprietary Captura dust binding technology allows powder to be mixed safely without the release of chemical dust. In addition, XT-3 also offers improved dissolving speed. Working solutions are made in less than 3 minutes. The developer, unlike similar ascorbic acid developers, is also said to have a longer shelf life. Although Adox has not been able to do enough testing for this on today to make this concrete. However, a shelf life of 6 months in completely airtight bottles should be possible, as with Kodak XTOL.
The developing times, dilutions and resulting curves are identical to those of Kodak XTOL, being the version sold through 2019 in the aluminum bags.
