Since the sale of the photochemistry business by Kodak to the Chinese company Sino Promise, the availability of Kodak photochemistry products has experienced serious problems regarding availability. As the availability of all Kodak photochemistry products in the future has become very uncertain, Adox is now offering an alternative to Kodak's popular D-76 in addition to its own variant of Kodak XTOL. Moreover, it has been improved and now includes its own Captura technology.
The Kodak “Developer-76” recipe is an analoge photography legend next to Rodinal, gaining almost universal recognition as the go-to developer for photojournalistic work during WWII and after.
D-76 is a universal, easy-to-use film developer with a multitude of applications and compatible with almost any black-and-white film. It delivers great results in scenes with a varying contrast, offers a fine grain structure and yields a great film speed-utilisation.
As mentiond earlier, Adox starting working on the classic D-76 formula and, while keeping all its important original properties and developing times, brought it to more modern standards. The new Adox D-76 offers significantly lower dissolving temperatures and dust-free mixing thanks to the Captura® technology. Additionally, all the borates were removed and replaced with a non-toxic biodegradable buffer which makes the developer more eco-friendly and safer to use. The Adox D-76 powder developer is made in Germany, with both research and post-production quality control carried out on site.
The Adox D-76 film developer can be used exactly like the Kodak verison, with the already-published D-76 times, dilutions and factors.
