Foma Fomatone MG is a unique fine-art black-and-white photographic paper with a double-weight fiber base (FB) and variable contrast in seven levels (00 through 5). Compared to the standard Fomabrom fiber-based photographic papers the Fomatone papers feature a cream-colored warm paper base resulting in warm image tones. Thanks to the fine-tuned silver chlorobromide emulsion, prints have a pleasing warm tone that ranges from a subtle creamy warm tone to clearly saturated brown-to-green tone depending on the used processing techniques. This makes the paper especially suited for obtaining retro-styled prints and portrait photography.
Different than other fiber-based photographic papers, the Fomatone papers feature a rather slow light-sensitive emulsion making the paper well-suited for contact printing applications and special printing techniques, particularly lith printing. Of course, the Fomatone papers are also suitable for making standard photo prints but with extended exposure times.
The Fomatone photo papers have been the go to paper series for photographers wanting to making prints using the lith printing process. A part of this success are the easy-to-use Easy Lith Developers from Wolfgang Moersch which are specifically adapted to the emulsion of the Fomatone papers. In this regard it is good to know that due to a change in the gelatine structure, all Fomatone papers manufactured before 2022 (batch numbers lower than 0777) are only compatible with the standard Easy Lith Developers and all papers manufactured after 2022 can only be used with the new Fomatone Edition of the Easy Lith Developers.
The Fomatone MG photo paper is available in two finishes: semi-glossy (131) and matt (132).
