Foma Fomapastel MG is a special-effect, variabel contrast black-and-white photographic paper based on a silver chlorobromide emulsion and coated onto a thick double-weight baryta paper base (FB). Fomapastel is an orthochromatic photo paper with a pastel colored paper base which gives you new creative possibilities. It is unlike any other photographic paper on the market and will be loved by analog photographers who love specific photographic styles such as pop art, vintage surrealism and minimal art.
The Fomapastel papers are available in six different pastel colored paper bases: yellow (101), green (151), blue (161), red (171), cyan (181) and magenta (191). The contrast of the paper can be altered using the standard multigrade contrast filters. However, due to the specific nature of this paper it is advised to use filters which delivers high contrast grades to get the best results. Keep in mind the best prints are also obtained from negatives that have a strong contrast. Other than a film negative, a digital negative image on a transparent (inkjet) foil can also be used as a template for this paper.
Since this is an orthomatic sensitized photographic paper, the standard darkroom safelights (orange filter) cannot be used in combination with this paper. Only (indirect) safelights with a spectrum of 625nm or higher can be used which are safelights that are equipped with a red or orange-red filter.
The Fomapastel MG photo papers can be developed in trays just like any other photo paper. It is however recommended to use highly-active, neutral to high-contrast paper developers like Foma GD-L, Moersch SE20, Rollei RHS, Adox Adotol Konstant,… to get the desired results. As what regards the fixer, any type of common fixer can be used like Ilford Rapid Fixer or Bellini FX100.
